XYLEM X MCFC - LET’S SOLVE WATER

Only 0.5 per cent of water on Earth is useable. And with with severe droughts, flooding becomming more common place, as well as man-made issues such as water pollution, Xylem, the water technology company and sponsor of MCFC, want to spread the message through football and raise awareness of the threat we all face. Below are a series of the partnership campaigns we’ve created.

DIRECTED BY ROAR UTHUAG, YONI WEISBERG AND BEN JONES.

END OF FOOTBALL

The UK Environmental Agency predict that we will face severe drought by 2045. It could mean the closures of stadiums, arenas, and other live venues because there simply isn’t enough water to go around. If that were to happen, it could really see the end of the game we love.

TAKE STEPS TO SOLE WATER

Litter pollutes our rivers and oceans, it’s washed into drains, causing blockages and floods. On top of this, billions of people still don’t have access to safe drinking water and are forced to walk on average six kilometres to get it. So Xylem enlisted Pep Guardiola and his team to help spread the word, and inspire all of us to Take Steps to Solve Water.

Partnering with Strava, we created two global ‘water challenges’ that anyone could take part in. The events took place on World Water Day and World Earth Day. To promote them, we created films, pitch side digital displays, TikTok’s and worked with influencers such as Ben Black. It all resulted in over 200,000 people taking part, spending nearly one million hours doing their bit to help solve the world’s water problems.

WATER HEROES FC

For the very first time, players from Manchester City Men’s, Women’s and Academy teams have come together to form Water Heroes FC.

Led by Pep Guardiola, Water Heroes FC are here to encourage us all to tackle the world’s water crisis in our “extra time”. From taking small actions such as spreading the word on water issues on social media, to getting involved in bigger things such planting more trees, fighting flooding, or taking part in river clean-ups.

Water Heroes FC was brought to life through a series of energetic and colourful films directed by ben Jones and animated by Ruff Mercy along with a series of OOH ads that directed people to waterheroes.com an online hub where they could sign up to take part in water activities across the globe.
